Blanket & Scarf Drive
We look forward to hold this charity drive for another successful year since 2009.
The charity blanket and scarf special is assorted colours 25 Blankets 1.5 x 1.0 meter @ R875.00 30 Scarves tassels @ R420.00 All mixed colours Exclude VAT & Delivery In relation with Diepsloot Sewing Project In 2003, Marita Nightingale, a member of Bryanston Methodist Church, started classes skilling ladies (and men) of the Diepsloot Community with the idea that they would become self-sustaining, either to be employed using their new found skill or to set up small businesses to sell their goods. We employ two trainers, Talita (who was involved for many years as a trainer and production developer / manager, and has been running her own sewing production for the last number of years) and Tryphina (who has been involved for many years as a trainer). All others involved in the running, marketing, and running around, administration are volunteers. We have also started developing our own products (sewing and beading) and taking in orders to be able to become self-sustaining and cover the operational costs of the levy and electricity, machine servicing, paying the trainers, and buying the necessary equipment and supplies needed for the training and production. Our vision is to be able to provide excellent training in sewing and other crafts as and when we have the resources to offer them. We would love to be able to develop to a stage where we are an accredited training centre and can provide certificates as proof of competence. We know that we will have to have the help of organisations who are skilled in this process and understand the requirements to help us with this. We would love to be able to send ladies (and men) out with the necessary skill to find employment or with the necessary business training equip them to start their own sewing enterprise. Again we would need external sources of help to provide some of the training and skills needed. See pictures on the next page.
